The following is a post created by Phyllis Rockower in 2015 but is still relevant. Her son, attorney, and real estate investor, William Bronchick, is continuing her blog as per her wishes and continue to educate real estate investors

When you do mailings to FSBOs or other motivated sellers, they have to look hand -done and personal. There are several ways to do this. It’s about time and money. The more time you have the less money you have to spend. The reverse is also true. If you are working full time and have the money to do so, the Yellowletterscomplete.com outfit is the best way to go.They are on our website under preferred vendors.  You give them a list, and your credit card and they do the rest. They can also get a list for you but it’s a bit more expensive.

Even though I use yellowletterscomplete.com to do most of my mailings, there are times when i just want to send a few. It’s easy to do a mail merge to make a yellow letter that looks hand done. This is also a good method for those who have more time than money. The problem is how to get it printed on the lines of legal paper…

You MUST use a real stamp- no bulk mail. Everyone opens their mail over the garbage can. If it is unfamiliar and looks official- into the round file. So you have to get them curious enough to open it.

If you are totally non-techy, You can also hand write a letter using a skinny sharpie on some fancy stationery leaving out the salutation and address. You then run this thru a color printer numerous times. You will then hand write the person’s name on each one as well as the address. I know, it’s time-consuming, but I am taking away your excuse about not being computer savvy. Do you really want to waste your time doing this?

The problem with the mail merge and the hand -done one up until now is using the right envelope. You can’t use business looking ones. You have to use funky sizes that look unofficial and personal. You also have to use a handwritten font. The problem is that most printers jam if you try to print multiple envelopes using mail merge. The last thing you want to do is hand write them if you have a lot of them to mail.

JUST A REMINDER:The best way to do these is to have one of the commercial mailers (we use yellowletterscomplete.com, but there are others) They will create a letter that appears handwritten and addressed, will mail merge your list put it in an invitation-type envelope and send it off for a little over a buck apiece if you do at least 250-300)
